Two hours on a quad in the Agafay Desert isn't something you want to wing. Here's everything I tell my clients before they climb on board.
Why the Agafay Desert still takes my breath away every time
I'll admit it: after ten years in Marrakech, the Agafay Desert has never once let me down. It's not the Sahara with its sweeping sand dunes — and that's exactly what I love about it. The landscape is mineral, almost lunar, with stretches of stone and ochre earth that seem to go on forever. When I see groups come back from there, eyes bright and smiles wide, I'm reminded of why I keep recommending it without hesitation.
The Quad Agafay 2H dans le Désert de Marrakech is one of the experiences closest to my heart. Two hours is exactly the right amount: long enough to truly immerse yourself in the landscape, short enough that you don't come back exhausted. But before you climb on board, there are a few things I always make sure to tell my clients.

What's included — and what isn't
Let's start here, because this is often what catches people off guard at the last minute. Here's what's included in the activity:
- A two-seater quad with a professional guide who accompanies you throughout the entire route
- A full safety briefing, helmet and all necessary equipment
- Return transfer from your hotel in Marrakech — nothing to organise on your end
On the other hand, here's what is not included:
- Personal expenses and additional services
- A tip for the guide, which is of course optional but always appreciated
- Food and drinks
- The camel ride, available as an add-on — I'll come back to that below
Who can take part? The age rules you need to know
This is the question I get most often from families and mixed groups. The rule is simple: to be a driver, you must be at least 16 years old. Below that age, no need to worry — children from 6 years old can ride as passengers. It's a lovely way to include the younger ones while keeping everyone safe. I think this rule is very sensible and I always communicate it clearly from the moment of booking.

How to prepare — my checklist before you go
The Agafay Desert deserves a little preparation. Here's what I recommend every time:
- Closed-toe shoes — essential, no sandals or flip-flops
- Long trousers — to protect your legs on the track
- Sunglasses — the light and dust can be intense
- Comfortable clothing, and a light jacket depending on the season — mornings and late afternoons can be cool
The safety briefing and helmet are provided on site, so there's no need to bring any specific equipment of your own. Come light, come comfortable.
Booking: don't leave it to the last minute
I say it to every group: this activity must be booked at least 3 days in advance. That's the time needed to confirm availability with the operator. A deposit of €25 per two-seater quad is required at the time of booking, and the balance is paid in cash on the day.
On cancellations: it's free up to 3 days before the date. After that deadline, the deposit is non-refundable. And for bookings made less than 3 days in advance, no refund will be possible. In short, the earlier you book, the more peace of mind you'll have.
Want to make the adventure last longer?
If your group wants to go even further with the Agafay experience, the camel ride is available as an add-on. It's a wonderful way to round off the session gently, as the sun sets over the ochre stones. And if you're looking for an even more complete package, take a look at the Agafay Dîner Spectacle, Quad et Dromadaire — a full evening in the desert, with dinner and a show included.
For speed lovers who prefer four wheels to two, the Buggy dans le Désert d'Agafay is also a wonderful alternative to explore. Everyone finds their joy in this extraordinary landscape — that's what I love about Agafay.
