My night at Dar Soukkar — and why I keep bringing my groups back

An evening that begins the moment you arrive

Some evenings in Marrakech are still being talked about the next morning. Dar Soukkar is one of them. When I bring a group there for the first time, I always watch for the reaction at the entrance — and it never disappoints. The décor of an authentic Moroccan palace, the soft lighting, the wafts of incense… you slip instantly into a completely different atmosphere.

The venue is on the Route de l'Ourika, about 10 minutes by car from Jemaa el-Fna. No need to hunt around: the address is straightforward, the journey quick, and the feeling of being transported somewhere else is immediate the moment you walk through the door.

Dinner: two culinary worlds to choose from

One of the things I love about Dar Soukkar is the freedom given to guests when it comes to the menu. Two options are available: World Cuisine or Oriental Cuisine. Depending on the mood, the group, the occasion — everyone chooses. Both are served at the table, with attentive service that is truly part of the experience.

Worth noting: drinks are settled on-site and are not included in the base package. Keep that in mind when budgeting for your evening. It is also possible to add a seasonal fruit platter as a supplement — a small pleasure I always recommend at the end of the meal.

The oriental show: the moment everyone is waiting for

At 9:30 pm, the magic begins. Oriental dancers, shimmering costumes, mesmerising rhythms… The show runs until 12:30 am and delivers on every promise. I've seen entire tables get up to dance, shy people transform within the hour. That's Dar Soukkar: a living stage, not just background music.

Then the DJ takes over to keep the night going for as long as the party-goers wish. It's the kind of night that resembles nothing else — neither a classic restaurant nor a nightclub, but something uniquely in between, carried by the architecture of the place.

What to know before booking

A few practical details I always share with my visitors before we head out:

• Dress code: smart dress is required. Sportswear, shorts and flip-flops are not accepted. You dress for the occasion — and honestly, that's part of the fun.
• Children: the minimum age is 6. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, children under 6 are not admitted to the show. If you are coming as a family with very young children, a weekday evening (Monday to Thursday) is preferable.
• Transport: not included in the price, but available as an option on request depending on where you are staying.
• Booking: reservation is mandatory, at least 5 days before your chosen date. A fixed deposit of €10 per person is paid at the time of booking on Just Marrakech. The balance (meals and drinks consumed) is paid directly on-site on the evening, by card or in cash.

Who do I recommend Dar Soukkar for?

Honestly? Almost everyone. It's one of my favourite go-to spots for hen parties looking for a glamorous and festive setting, for groups of friends after the highlight of the trip, for couples wanting a night outside of time, or for families — as long as you pick the right evening.

What I love is that the experience is complete: you eat well, you have a front-row seat to a real show, and you end the night dancing to music. No need to juggle multiple venues — Dar Soukkar does all of that in one place, in a setting that will stay with you long after you leave.
