My magical night under the stars of the Agafay Desert

When Marrakech gives way to the silence of the desert

Some evenings stay with you for months. My evening in the Agafay Desert is one of them. Even after ten years of living in Marrakech, every time I cross those stretches of golden stone and the city disappears behind me, I feel like I can breathe differently. That night, it was the Agafay Dîner Spectacle, Quad et Dromadaire experience — and I now understand why it so often comes up in my visitors' conversations as the best memory of their trip.

The quad: adrenaline in the heart of the desert

We start by putting on the safety gear, under the watchful eye of the guide who makes sure everyone is properly equipped. Then the engines start, and off we go. The tracks of the Agafay Desert are simply stunning: rocky plateaus, ridges, descents that have you laughing out loud. I'm no experienced rider, but the guide is there at every turn to reassure the less confident and give the more daring riders a real challenge. The activity is open to people aged 18 and over — a good thing, as the terrain requires a minimum of alertness and concentration.

As we round each bend, the light shifts. The sun begins to redden the horizon, shadows stretching long across the stones. We stop, cut the engines. And then the silence of the desert settles in. It's one of those moments you never forget.

The camel ride: the slow rhythm of the desert

After the adrenaline, it's time for something gentler. The camel ride is another way to get acquainted with the desert — slower, more contemplative. You climb up onto the animal's back, hold on, share a laugh when it stands up (always a memorable moment for first-timers!), and let yourself be lulled by its unhurried pace.

From up there, the panorama over the Agafay Desert takes on a whole new dimension. The sky begins to prick with its first stars. The air cools slightly. We speak little, we look a lot. It's exactly the kind of pause you need when everyday life moves too fast.

The dinner show: a celebration under the stars

Night has fully fallen by the time we arrive for the dinner show. The rugs, the lanterns, the musicians tuning their instruments… The setting is sumptuous. Dinner is served and the show begins: music, dance, fire — everything flows into the next with an infectious energy that gets everyone on their feet.

What has always struck me about this kind of evening is the generosity of the sharing. The artists don't perform for a passive audience — they bring everyone along with them. I've seen the most reserved travellers end up clapping their hands and getting up to dance. Marrakech has that gift: it makes you let your guard down.

Worth noting: pool access is included in the experience, ideal if you arrive early or want to extend the evening at your own pace. Drinks and tips, however, are to be budgeted separately — remember to bring cash, as the balance for the evening is settled on site in cash.

What I take away from this evening

The Agafay Dîner Spectacle, Quad et Dromadaire experience is one I recommend without hesitation, whether you're on a romantic getaway, out with friends, or part of a group looking for an evening that truly stands out from the ordinary. Shared return transport is included, which makes organising everything very straightforward.

One practical tip: book at least 3 days before your date. And if you need to cancel, do so before that deadline — the €40 per person deposit is non-refundable beyond that point. No same-day cancellations are possible.
